More about me

My experience as an acting teacher began with my work as an instructor at Young People’s Theatre in Toronto where I taught classes for kids 8-17 years old.  In both classes and summer camps, the students were introduced to improvisation and acting techniques where they were encouraged to tell their own stories through drama.  Final performances were on the main stage at YPT which became an awesome, fun learning experience.

I have also worked in TDSB schools as an ‘artist in the schools’ to use drama to teach the curriculum.  This often gave students who had no other connection to the arts a place to play and experience the connection that drama can give.

Currently, I am an on-camera acting instructor at Armstrong Acting Studios where I teach on-camera performance technique at the introductory and intermediate levels to children, youth and adults.

I am also on the faculty of Randolph College for the Performing Arts teaching on-camera acting and audition technique to graduating students.  This class is currently focused on self-tapes and Zoom auditions which has become so much more common in the industry in the last year.

I believe in respecting the individual and encouraging them to use their own authenticity in their approach to the work.  If they are empowered with tools & skills, they can learn to have fun and really enjoy the audition process instead of worrying about it.  I believe in using the whole body, connecting to the breath, and finding your voice through that process.

Sharon spent five, half day sessions with my Grade 4 class, exploring many facets of drama, literature and movement. She integrated everything smoothly and effectively, based on a theme she, myself and another teacher collaboratively established. Sharon is a fantastic person to work with! She is personable, organized, flexible, humorous, creative, and talented. My students loved her sessions and due to the comfortable environment Sharon provided, they all participated enthusiastically. Sharon provided a wonderful educational experience for both my students and I, and I highly recommend her as a drama educator.

“I just wanted to send you a quick note to thank you for leading a great class. Not only was your feedback and instruction valuable, but your encouragement and care were as well. You met us all where we were at without judgement, and built a space where we could be vulnerable. Though I know there’s still more work to be done, I left feeling more confident and less anxious when confronted by the camera, which, if you had asked me at the beginning, I would have thought was near impossible.”
